Dell 30" 3007WFP on T43P
Dell 30" 3007WFP on T43P
Does anyone know if Dell 30" widescreen 3007WFP will work on Thinkpad T43p with Docking/Port replicator? According to Dell, it requires a DVI-D dual link port and a graphic card that supports up to 2560x1600.
I know that Dell 24" 2405FPW works great with T43p but not sure about this 30" monster.

The practical answer is no. None of the Thinkpad DVI connectors (docks or port replicator) support Dual-Link DVI.
However, if you're willing to do some "surgery" you can get the Matrox DL256 card to fit in the Dock II, which will drive two of the 30" displays at their native resolution (2560x1600). The card would run in 32-bit mode, with the extra traces that support 64-bit PCI dangling free. I have a DL256 driving two of the 30" monitors on a different system and it works okay, but it's a pretty slow card, bandwidth limited by the PCI bus.
The Thinkpad Advanced Dock, supported by the Z60 and T60, accepts a PCI-e x16 graphics board, so you will have multiple choices with that configuration.
Side note: Using the Dell 24" 2405FPW (1920x1200) and the Dell 30" 3007WFP side by side, I prefer the 24". The 24" size is just right for me, and the myriad inputs on the 24" make is a far more versital piece of gear. The 30" has DVI input only, and a very limited number of supported resolutions.

Apathy is on the rise, but nobody seems to care.
Yes, according to Lenovo's documentation.Troels wrote:Are you sure the Thinkpad advanced Dock support Pci-e x16 ?

but, i'm going blind, they just state "One half-size PCI Express card slot - Supports a range of graphics adapter cards that allow for multi-monitoring". Can't find anything mentioning this in the user's guide either, so it could just be x1, x8 or x16 ?
Here's another thought: I wonder if this would work..

A flexible PCI-Express x16 extender. The same idea may also work on the Dock II's PCI bus. Just put the extender in the dock, attach the graphics card to the other end (hanging outside the housing of the dock), leave the bottom cover off (which I do all the time anyway), and raise the dock up with some kind of 1" high stand. The video card runs physically outside the dock!
With any extender like this, there may be noise/impedence/timing issues that could prevent this idea from working. But it's worth a shot... I think I may order one just to try.
