FN + F12 goes to Standby instead of Hibernate
FN + F12 goes to Standby instead of Hibernate
It's possible the solution is a simple one, but after a search of the forums and messing with settings in Power Options (Advanced -> "When I press the sleep button on my computer:") I still can't seem to find a solution.
I can hibernate if I go to Start -> "Turn Off Computer..." -> and press Shift while hovering the cursor over "Stand By"...am I overlooking something horribly obvious?

i had the same problem, but didnt mind to much because i couldnt manually hibernate anyhow (somewhat customized installation), but then one day from out of the blue, it hibernated without me doing anything about it.

After your suggestion GomJabbar, I tried changing some settings in the BIOS but with no different results.
The strange thing is that I can't always duplicate the problem. I'll press FN+F12 and it'll go into Standby, then I'll wake it and try immediately again and it'll Hibernate. Sometimes it takes several tries before it'll Hibernate properly, and other times it'll Hibernate on the first attempt.
I do notice that sometimes I get a message regarding IBM DLA which prevents me from Hibernating, but even that doesn't happen all the time.
What gives? Any other suggestions?
Thanks,
-Andrew

Certain running processes can prevent going into Standby (probably Hibernate too). For instance, if I am watching a video, I can't go into Standby. I believe a program called Alcohol 120% can prevent Standby.
Take a look in Event Viewer for possible clues. Look for events that occur at the time you try to go into Standby or Hibernation - and fail. Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Event Viewer.
EDIT: BTW, it's been awhile since I have seen Commander Keen. Any relation?
