What "type" of dead pixel?

#1 Post by sparta.rising » Tue Feb 28, 2006 2:25 am

I got my T43 back in November, and it came with 1 dead pixel. I could have returned it, but I didnt want the hassle for just 1 of millions of pixels. So I just gave up on it as a given, but today I ran Dead Pixel Buddy, and was looking at it with different color backgrounds. Its a single black pixel. Didn't see it with the black background, obviously. Saw it with white, saw it with red, saw it with green, then wait.... blue? The dead pixel was gone with the blue background. Does anyone know why this is? Is this a stuck pixel and not dead? Or what?

I'm currently running UndeadPixel 2.1, but it hasnt changed another, but it says to let it run for a few hours so and its only been about 15 minutes. I'll report back if it fixes it.

But if it doesnt, anyone know why it goes away with Blue? Any magic fix aside from rubbing or the unstick videos?

the pixel might not be "dead" as you think it to be. it might just be partially working and thus its able to render black and blue whereas it cannot render the other colors.

There are two types of malfunctioning pixels; dead pixels and stuck pixels. Stuck pixels occur due to minor variation in the actual hardware, they can become stuck/unstuck in a few situations. Dead pixels, usually Red, are stuck like that and a movie of flashing colors generally doesn't help fix them. Stuck pixels are most commonly light gray/white in color.

If it hasn't changed even slightly thus far, I would go with it being a dead pixel; but let that program run for a tad and see what happens. HTH :)

Press on the dead pixel fairly hard (but not too too hard, use your descrecion) with a soft cloth over your finger. That usually tends to clear dead pixels up for me and worked thousands of times on my old laptop, sometimes lasting a few weeks before I pressed it again.

A dead pixel is typically black, or very dark grey.

A stuck pixel is either red, green, blue, or white. Those can often be fixed with a software tool to rapidly change the colors.

A pixel is actually three transistors - one for red, green and blue each. Each one of them can malfunction, leading to all possible color combinations in stuck pixels.

Totally dead pixels are bright on TN panels, which are "normally white" and dark on IPS/VA panels, which are "normally black".

Well its a 14.1" T43 so not sure which type of panel that is, but it sounds like the green and red transitors are dead. Program has been running for 5 hours with no luck, but on one forum I saw a few people claiming success after 8 hours, so its worth a try. I've tried the pressing with no results. Thanks for all the info.
