Disabling items in startup-new T42

#1 Post by michaelj » Wed Jul 21, 2004 2:47 pm

I just got this T42 and I am practised at going into MSCONFIG to disable uneeded startup items. However, in spite of referring to an excellent site called http://www.sysinfo.org/startupinfo.html I cannot find many of these IBM specific startup items listed. And some of the ones that they recommend disabling look t
like they might be needed.

Is there somewhere I can go that will give me info on all the IBM startup items, or someone who knows what you can and cannot disable? Some of these items do not even have a name!! This is a clean machine just purchased so I'm certain there's no viruses or spyware on the system.

I like my PC's to run with the maximum amount of resources, but IBM has put in a huge number of programs in the startup.

use this tool: www.windowsstartup.com

it WILL NOT answer all your questions, but give you good clues... also, use google... it also shows you many items that msconfig can't find.... in any case, don't worry.... when you disable a startup item, your removing a check mark... if you accidentally take away something important, recheck and put it back!!! experiment and have fun!
