Is it possible...?

#1 Post by apoc » Wed Mar 01, 2006 4:31 am

I was wondering if making HPA (which is at the very end of the disk) from Recovery CDs on my T41 after I install my OS is possible? Will making a recovery partition destroy my prior XP installation or not? Any experiences? Thanks, MZ.

I believe it's possible but... the HPA in order to boot
does some stuff to the MBR in order to be able to boot
along with stuff to the bios in order to be hidden...

look at this thread for more info in depth.

So it would be best to set up HPA first and let it do what it has to...
then copy your existing system using Partition Magic or Acronis
True Image to the remaining space on hard drive. FWIW

Good luck

HPA should be installed in a completely clean disk, with no partition information established :(

Thanks, but frankly this is a bad news to me. I've just cloned my partitions except HPA to new disk, and in a week or so I should get the Recovery CDs. Thought I could use them after I installing OS, but it seems I will not. MZ.
