[SOLVED] Infrared won't work after fresh win install

Hi everyone,
I installed new XP home to my T42 (2378-RRU) and everything works fine - everything but infrared.

In device manager it shows no conflict, in BIOS it's enabled, in TP Configuration it's enabled, but it won't do anything when I try to connect some other devices (cell phone, another thinkpad, ...)

I'm pretty sure, that other side infrared ports were operational (i've connected both cellphone and thinkpad successfully) and I've installed XP home before from exact same CD and infrared worked.

What's wrong? Any ideas?

Check if the Windows Infra Red service is running. It needs to be for the port to work in Win2K/XP.

Start -> Control Panel ->Adminstrative Tools -> Computer Management

Pick "Services and Applications", the last item in the right hand panel by double clicking

Pick "Services" in the right hand panel by double-clicking.

You will see a long list of stuff in the right hand side, you want to look for an entry that says "Infrared Monitor". Double click on it, change the start up type to "Automatic" and then hit the "Start" button. Hit "Apply" then "OK" then close the "Computer Management" window

You should then be all set. YMMV.

there is nothing like "* infrared *" nor "* irda *" in my services list... maybe it failed to install? how can I add it?

uh, i don't exactly know, what i did (probably uninstalling infrared port and trying to run irftp helped), but now i do have "Infrared Monitor" service and everything works fine!

i hope it will be the same after my next reboot ;)
