Do my T43 comes with 256MB on-board Video memory?

#1 Post by bhuiyan » Fri Mar 03, 2006 2:34 am

Dear all,

Recently, I bought a new T43. From Windows XP, when I Right-click Display Properties->Settings->Advanced->Adapter, I see the adapter information like ATI MOBILITY RADEON X300. However, the memory size says, 256 MB. I checked with my other T42 where the same procedure shows ATI MOBILITY RADEON 7500 with memory size 32MB, as expected.

ThinkPad parts lookup says the ATI MOBILITY RADEON X300 card comes with 64MB video memory. So what does that 256MB means? Is there a provision in these new T43s for using some additional system memory as Video memory? How can I be sure exactly how much video RAM this machine comes with? It's a 2668.

Regards

DxDiag test result on that same T43 also shows 256MB

Meanwhile, I performed a Google search and came to the microsoft web page describing the DxDiag test for Display devices. The results also show 256 MB display memory. If I really have 256 MB video memory chip installed on my machine, with X300 card, would that enable me to do 3D some volume rendering?

---------------
Display Devices
---------------
Card name: ATI MOBILITY RADEON X300
Display Memory: 256.0 MB
Current Mode: 1400 x 1050 (32 bit) (60Hz)
Monitor: IBM ThinkPad 1400x1050 LCD panel

It should be 64MB video memory. See this thread for more details on possible software glitch:

You expected your TP to have 256MB video? Seriously?

This sounds borderline, please refrain.
