T41p turns off display suddenly!

#1 Post by baovu » Fri Mar 03, 2006 2:48 am

Last night, my t41p suddenly went blank while I was working on a word document. The fan was still on, I could hear the noise. I restarted and the problem occurred again. I tried safe mode, but i could go as long as a minute before the screen went blank again. I immediately called tech support and spent about 2h with the guy trying to figure out what went wrong. The tech guy initially suspected that there was st wrong with the lcd, however, we tried to get into the BIOS and stayed for couple minutes. It was ok while in the BIOS. After going through all scenarios, he said that my hard drive could be defective and sent me a replacement along with the recovery cds. Today, i burned a copy of Knoppix 4.0.2 hoping that I could use it since I will be running off the cd instead of my hard drive. The screen still went blank, this time while I was working in Knoppix. This worries me that the hard drive might not be the ultimate problem. I am thinking maybe something goes wrong with my FireGL T2 graphic card or worst case, my mainboard. According to the tech guy, I should be receiving the replacement unit in the next couple of days. I probably give it a shot and see how it goes. In the mean time, if anyone here might have a clue about my problem, I am anxious to hear from you.
