Return Dilema

#1 Post by TimWang » Fri Mar 03, 2006 3:09 am

I bought a 9-cell from ebay about 2 weeks ago and ever since I got it, the full charge capacity has been decreasing. The battery now has like 52 Wh when it was designed to have like 71 Wh.

I emailed the company and they said that they could replace it for me but I would have to pay shipping again (which is around $20-30). I'm not sure if I should do this because maybe all their batteries are like this. Btw, this is a generic non-IBM battery.

That's your problem right there. I've never gotten good battery life from third party batteries with any brand of notebook computer. You experience matches my with my old gateways. The total reserve battery life slowly creeps done much quicker than with the actual branded batteries (i.e., IBM in your case)

This is the one case where I buy actual manufacturer product. You do get what you pay for in this case.

I'd eat the shipping costs and get your money back.

I paid around $120 CDN for the battery. This is more than half the price listed on the IBM website so I did get what I paid for. I was just wondering about the experience of other people who bought batteries from ebay. :D

120CDN for the T40 9 cell? you got ripped off. there is a guy on ebay selling genuine IBM batteries for 80 US shipped, hes a big dealer so im pretty sure he'll ship international... search for "t40 extended"

edit: i guess he doesnt do international, but thats still really high for a battery... especially one of that qaulity. the standard IBM 6 cell battery is designed for 50wh... ive still got 41.2wh left after a couple years.

That battery is not worth $120CAN.

Well, I figured in shipping and the import tax I paid. I think I might have to return this battery as I really don't like it and I'll probably buy an IBM battery instead.
