MS-DOS is deprecated in Windows NT/2000/XP. Current and late-model ThinkPads ship with Windows XP. You can find the "Command Prompt" under Accessories on the Start menu, but you'll need to be aware that it's a DOS emulator, and isn't 100% compatible.

Depends on which part of the world you are. Where I live I can get ThinkPads without any pre-installed OS, and they come with a little brochure with a number to call to get free PC DOS 2000 on various media.

OS-less systems cost about US$120 less than the equivalent XP Pro included systems.

If you are interested in DOS, you may find this link and links within useful.

I used to use 4DOS, and it is like DOS on steroids. Highly recommended. However, this only replaces command.com, so you still need DOS to run it on.

Thailand.

Officially if a manufacturer intends to sell systems bundled/pre-installed with Windows, they aren't allowed to also sell systems without Windows. But apparently a loophole exists somewhere and it's been happening here in SE Asia for a while. But I hear this is going away soon, probably when Windows XP Starter Edition finally appears.
