New T43 with strange TFT screen issue

#1 Post by Chrispy » Sat Mar 04, 2006 7:46 pm

Hello all. I had a very bad experience with two T43s I had last month. I tried other brands, but I just could not go with anything else. I LOVE the feel and look of the thinkpads.

So I got a new one with a 2ghz processor and 14" SXGA+ screen. It has one pixel that is black (dead) near the top of the screen. I doubt IBM (since they still handle the support side) will replace the screen for this. However, every now and then a white stuck pixel appears in the middle of the screen in different places. It is definitely a stuck pixel and it only goes away when I turn of the screen for a min. If I suspend the computer or shut it down, when I turn it back on the pixel is back to normal. The black one is the one that won't go away. Should I call IBM to have the screen replaced since I keep getting random white stuck pixels in the screen after only having the computer for a few days? Will they even do that for me?

Thanks in advance for your help! :)

My T43 had a similiar issue but after a week of use all my pixels are working perfectly.

My theory is that possibley the screen is just burning in since it is new? But at any rate I would just wait a week and see what happens.

I think the white stuck pixel is a software problem. Even i have the same issue. If you take your mouse to the stuck pixel it will show you a scrollbar. When it is showing the scrollbar press the middle button of the track and drag the mouse. This should fix the stuck pixel.

Thanks for the tip. I tried that but with no luck. I think the stuck pixel on mine is a hardware defect :( Maybe it will go away. I'm not going to ask IBM to replace my screen over one dead pixel tho... plus they probably won't. However, if more than one pixel goes out then I will call. I was just worried about the ones that keep coming and going.

that same thing happens to me, but it is just the scroll software messing up. I have to double click the middle button while the cursor is pointing at that one pixel to get it to go away

I will have to try this the next time one of those white pixels pops up. Now, if only I could get rid of this one that is stuck on black haha.
