What colour should I powder coat my T41p
What colour should I powder coat my T41p
I shipped my lcd lid cover (t41p) to the states to get powder coated(painted).
And I was wondering what colour to coat it in.

Painting a Thinkpad will dramatically reduce its value. Are you sure you want to do this?

I am living in a different world. I would not pay any premium for a ThinkPad that had been tampered with in an unprofessional way (I don't care what kind of paint job). A well cared-for laptop with no physical harm, good screen, few scuffs and all the parts and accessories would fetch a higher premium from me. ... JD Hurst
The only way I would paint my Thinkpad is to get super glossy Jet Black from a professional autoshop with protective coating. Just like you would do it for an automobile. Then I could wax it once in a while.
Actually it may be cheaper to do that than send it in for laptop painting place.
Any other color it would not look right.

There is the possibility that it warps indeed, but that's why i bought it as a spare part. (here in holland we don't pay for shipping for ibm parts, so it was kind of cheap even
)
My guess is, if you let it cool off very slowly, it will "warp" back. And the point about melting.........eh, the melting temperature is like 2000 degrees, so that's not even a threat.

What is the lid of your T41 made of?

How interesting...
Hi everyone, im the person that will be Powder Coating this cover for Toine. He just showed me this thread, and I had absolutely no idea there there would be such a response for this type of modification. Amazing.
I myself own the old R-32 Thinkpad. I love it, but wish I had a newer model! I wish that model had a metal top cover, cause I would have Powder Coated it YEARS ago. Im a huge Yellow fan, so I would have done it in Gloss Yellow for sure. I just casted my vote above for Yellow, but its not my choice....we will see what he decides on.
We will post pics for sure, so stay tuned for that.
Im still amazed as to how many people have taken an interest in this type of modd. We will see how this one turns out, and if it works out good, maybe I will start to offer this service for everyone.
