Weird artifact/defect on 15" LG Flexview screen

I just noticed a defect on my 6-month-old T42 with an LG 15" Flexview SXGA+ screen. It looks exactly like an eyelash - a black, curved line of hair thickness - except it is not a crack in the front glass (or at least not the outside of it) as the area over it remains perfectly smooth. Location is 1" away from the bottom-right corner.
I mostly keep the computer at home, and this thing did not appear following transport so seems to have formed spontaneously.
I am frustrated by the defect but could live with it if I knew it wasn't a crack that might ever spread or cause screen failure.
- Anyone ever experienced this? Is this a crack in the back glass?
- What could have caused it, considering the incredibly solid structure of the screen casing (or might it be too rigid and therefore transferred any shock directly to the glass rather than dampening it as would happen with a plastic casing)?
- Is this sufficient reason for replacement under warranty (the "hair" is less than 1cm long)?

If it is only 6 months old just send it to IBM for repair.
