Thanks for the reply Paul, I appreciate the input.
I've grown accustomised to the automatic turning on/off WLAN adapters and autodetecting my wireless networks in a snap, provided by AC.
When moving the laptop around, it's a great utility.
I've sent Lenovo support a support request, hopefully they will give a reply.

Quick update:

After updating to the latest AC version, available through Software Installer, Access Connection's now working properly, with no random boxes at boot, reboot or shutdown.

I'm thrilled!
