Embarrassing to even ask: T41 Hard Drive Bay Cover Screw???
Hey Guys,
My hard drive bay cover screw fell out whiles I was walking between classes with my notebook out the sleeve. I didn't even notice at first but now the cover for the hard drive bay is very loose. It's the tiny screw at the bottom and its not there anymore.
I've been all over eBay and the internet looking for a replacement screw. I don't need a new caddy or hard drive or cover, I just need the screw but can't seem to find it for the T41.
Does anyone know where I can find just the screw?(Even if I have to buy a new cover to get the screw...I wouldn't mind)
Also can i get that screw at any hardware shop (if so anyone know whats the screw name?) or is it a special type of IBM screw?
Thanks.
Delmarco

T41 under warranty perhaps?
If not ... maybe it's not just the screw you need to replace. It ought not've just "fallen out." You might need the caddy after all. Take a close look. (Shut down. Power off. Remove all batteries. THEN remove hard drive.

I think it's when I unscrewed the bay to check out the HD since I want to upgrade it. I might not have screwed it back firmly.
But do you think when I get a new caddy it will come with the screw?
I'm not even sure how the warranty works but I will read up on it.

I lost my HD screw also and just ordered the whole set of screws for my machine from IBM. You get every screw for the machine with the exception of those four little tiny ones that hold the hd in it's cover, (don't know the exact name of the thing but for sure someone will correct me).
I also got the screw covers, the whole bag was around $3 or $4.

Just checked my T43 and the screw is a standard M3 (i.e. 3mm) and length is about 3mm i.e and M3 x 3. Head is Torx, but that is, to my mind, unimportant; slotted or crosshead would be fine.
As you say that you were walking between classes, do you not have any laboratory staff where you are? Anyone to do with science/ engineering would most likely keep a small tin of spare nuts and bolts, if not drawers of them. (That would be my approach if at uni here in the UK. -long time ago for me!)
regards,
Nick

Thanks guys!
Yeah, I'm an Environmental Engineering student, but I haven't build up my spare parts kit yet. And I'm usually in labs with soil and water samples...
I'm gonna check that guy out on eBay or if that fails try to order the screw set from IBM or if that fails check a hardware store for that specific screw as a thrid option.

Nearest R/C hobby shop! Cost you about $.50.Delmarco wrote:I'm gonna check that guy out on eBay or if that fails try to order the screw set from IBM or if that fails check a hardware store for that specific screw as a thrid option.
Most hardware stores will have it also.
It's an M3 × 3 mm.

Thanks, afd wrote:I actually just had the exact same problem with my T40. I was able to buy a screw on ebay for $2.00, that auction is over now but I bet if you contact the seller he can set you up with the screw, he seemed like a nice guy.
His ebay handle is mog1669
I just got the screw from him a minute ago.
easy as cake.
