#1 Post by cmarti » Sat Mar 11, 2006 8:25 pm

Hi! Guys i am trying to connect my Motorola V551 using bluetooth.
I already have the device paired in my computer, but when trying to create the connection using the motorola phone tools program i receive the following error:

Comm port Installation failed.

Anyone has seen this before? Maybe someone help me.

Thanks..

Hello,

I don't have a v551, but I do connect my razr just using My Bluetooth places. Through Bluetooth places, I can do file transfers.

Do you have My Bluetooth places set up already?

Hello,

Are your Bluethooth Services Started? You may have to go into Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Services and Start both Bluetooth Services.

Btw, did you update your phone tools software?

EDITED By the way, also ensure Telephony service is also started.

Sorry that didn't work for you. I had the exact same error when I tried to install MPT for my razr. The comm port error popped up too.

What you might try doing is uninstalling MPT and reinstalling it. BUT... BEFORE you launch MPT, make sure all the services are started, and the thinkpad and phone bluetooth are enabled. Believe it or not, this is exactly what I had to do. The reason is that once you get the comm error, the MPT program doesn't seem to want to detect the phone anymore.
Phone tools software updated to the latest version.
This is strange that you got to update the software. My software couldn't get updated until my phone got detected by MPT, and then the program needed to access the net for the update... about 56megs!

I am a Cingular V551 user, I use my phone as a backup connection with my T42(including VPN). I don't use Phone Tools (or anything else), and everything works great.
According to Access Connections, I connect at 115.2kbps, wich is adequate for light browsing & email.
Make sure you have your Access Connections and the widdcom bluetooth(ThinkPad Bluetooth IV) up-to-date and configured correctly.
Also, below is the URL for Cingular's Tutorial for tethering your phone to XP
http://tutorials.cingular.com/tutorial/ ... tutIndex=1

Follow the instruction (including item#2 manually create a Bluetooth Dial-Up Networking session in Windows XP. ) exactly as written!
Also, you might have to try different *99etc numbers till you get one that works.

Good Luck!

You might also want to look at this very usefull thread
http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=9551

I used CChoi83's first post, although I did not delete my prior pairings per the "Warning!", instead, I followed 2cool4u's suggestion, THEN I continued from Step 3 onwards.

When All is complete, hover your mouse over the 2 bluetooth icons in your System Tray>Right-click the icon "Bluetooth on [your laptop name]" and use either "Quick Connect" or "Advanced Configuration"(a Wizard).
Then follow the Cingular Tutorial
