Slow Performance

#1 Post by pmchardy » Mon Mar 13, 2006 8:19 am

I would appreciate some thoughts on a problems I have. We have about 40 T4x series laptops here. In general they work well and without problems.

However, in the last 3 weeks I have seen about 6 back ( T43s, t42s and t41) for different but similar ( if that makes sense) problems. Typically the symptoms are very slow performance, 5-10 minutes to start up. High CPU useage often from winlogon, but not always. Everything works and runs but very very slowly.

I have only seen this problem on IBM laptops, but they do account for 90% of my laptops here.

These laptops all have 512 or 1gb ram, lots of free HD (>30%) they have windows xp pro fully patched, sophos v5.1.6 and office xp fully patched as well as the novell client either 4.9 for 4.91 sp2. The IBM software has not generally been updated untill the problem showed. Updating the ibm components has not subsequently resolved these issues.

The only way to resolve this problem has been to reformat the laptops which is a bit of an akward sod.

I have a feeling that this may in some way be related to a specific series of updates from microsoft, sophos? and IBM software.

any thoughts would be appreciated.

Did you check the event viewer logs for errors/warnings?

adware?
run spybot, adware and hijack this? I had a similar problem and I removed
O20 - Winlogon Notify: psfus - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\psqlpwd.dll
O20 - Winlogon Notify: tpfnf2 - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\notifyf2.dll
O23 - Service: FMUQKOJRQPTKY - Sysinternals - www.sysinternals.com - C:\DOCUME~1\Eric\LOCALS~1\Temp\FMUQKOJRQPTKY.exe
with hijack this

deleted
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\psqlpwd.dll
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\notifyf2.dll

and ran disk clean up,

and the computer stopped stalling
