Problems with Bluetooth
Problems with Bluetooth
Hello,
I have a T42, 2373-CXG, and would like to use a Bluetooth headset with the Skype program. I have managed to "pair" the headset with the computer (the headset, Logitech HS02-V07, is listed among my Bluetooth devices), but Skype does not show the Bluetooth option among the sound devices (In Skype: Tools --> Options --> Sound Devices). Any help would be appreciated.
Regards,
BV

However I tried, I could not find any additional operations that could be performed after pairing. The headset instructions speak only of pairing. One suspicious thing is that the headset is correctly listed as an Audio device; but when I go to the device Properties --> Services, the Services panel is blank.

Hi,
the reason why it does not work might be that both Microsoft's own and IBM's drivers are installed.

fromNote:
On Windows XP with Microsoft Standard Bluetooth software installed, you must perform the following steps in order to complete the installation of the Integrated Bluetooth II software.
Turn the Bluetooth power on.
-Click Start, select Control Panel.
-Click Performance and Maintenance, then click System.
-Click the Hardware tab, then click Device Manager.
-Double-click Bluetooth Radios.
-Double-click Integrated Bluetooth II.
-Click the Driver tab, then click the Update Driver... button.
-Select Install from a list or specific location then click Next.
-Select Don't search. I will choose the driver to install, then click Next.
-Select the driver without the Digital Signed icon, and click Next.
-Note: If you do not see the driver with the digital signature, click "Have disk", then enter "C:\Drivers\WIN\BDCAT" in the "Copy manufacturer's files from:" box, click OK, then select Next.
-When a pop-up window appears, click the Continue Anyway button.
-Click Finish to close window.

you should have only one BLUETOOTH list under device manager. I am using T42 also and I only have on list in there - IBM Integrated Bluetooth III. Windows XP will try to use MS bluetooth driver by default. If you have IBM Bluetooth driver setup correctly, you will have MY BLUETOOTH PLACE as one of your icons. If you don't have that, you will have to update the driver.
1. Go to PROPERTIES of your bluetooth device. Go to 'Driver' and 'Update Driver'.
2. It should bring up 'Hardware Update Wizard' window. Click 'No, not this time' for Windows Update to search for software question.
3. Then select 'Install from list or specific location (Advance)' after you click 'Next'.
4. The next screen, click on 'Don't serch. I will choose the driver to install', then 'Next'.
5. From the next screen, make sure that you UNCHECK 'Show compatible hardware', you should see a few Bluetooth driver on that Windows. You suppose to use 'IBM Integrated Bluetooth III' (the one that does NOT have the digitally signed) instead of the one from Microsoft.
Try that and you should have the correct driver install. Once you have the correct driver installed, you should be able to pair your headset and use it has the headset gateway.
Good luck!!!

I have the Bluetooth IV driver installed (and working well) on a T43 and I have two BT devices listed in Device Manager.BccKiller wrote:you should have only one BLUETOOTH list under device manager.
There is a Bluetooth Bus Enumerator (WIDCOM) plus a Thinkpad Integrated Bluetooth IV (WIDCOM). I don't recall what was there when I was running the Bluetooth III driver, but I think the point is that the however many devices are there, they should have WIDCOM supplied drivers rather than Microsoft supplied drivers.

Bill
Problem solved
Hello,
I have finally solved my problems with Bluetooth, and I would
like to thank all my respondents for the information they
provided.
In case my information could help other people, here is what the
problem was: It turns out that my Thinkpad T42 (2373-CXG), while
equipped with Bluetooth hardware and the basic drivers, lacked
Bluetooth software that makes Bluetooth technology operational
(IBM Integrated Bluetooth II Software is contained in IBM's file
bthwxp1o.exe). In view of the fact that IBM provides user-level
software in other areas (cable and wireless networking, CD and
DVD technology, etc.) when such areas are supported by the
computer hardware, I fail to understand why it did not include
Bluetooth software in my laptop. That is what made it difficult
for me to grasp what the problem was. Anyway, after installing
the above software, and after updating drivers as described by
other respondents, my Bluetooth link works.

Re: Problem solved
Same here. I removed the MS Bluetooth driver as described above and am now able to use my Bluetooth headset with Skype and other programs.TPBV wrote:...I would like to thank all my respondents for the information they provided...
Also, it seems that I know have options for Bluetooth services that I was not aware of until today. Thanks again, guys.
