Does anyone has ever seen this error?

#1 Post by cmarti » Sun Mar 19, 2006 9:08 pm

My kid was playing BF1 (Star Wars) and suddently the screen flickers and now i cannnot see anything. If i disable the Vidoe adapter in the hardware manager i manage to make the laptop work.
Here is the error i receive:

The driver ati2dvag for the display device \Device\Video0 got stuck in an infinite loop. This usually indicates a problem with the device itself or with the device driver programming the hardware incorrectly. Please check with your hardware device vendor for any driver updates.

I cannot find a way to solve this, It is posible that the video game kill my GPU??

Look at my sig. i have 128 Fire GL T2 Mobo.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

It has been reported in this forum before. Try a search.

That is a well-known error; a good search will turn up some pretty good results. :)

I had this error on my first t42 from day one, this forum was not available back then, here is what I did, googled the error, found several possibilities, video driver, pci bus, motherboard. Called IBM they said i needed uninstall sp2 and call them back, ha ha.

Anyhow, long story short, tried everything nothing worked, sent it back. You may have better luck, if you google you'll get detailed instructions on what to do and find that this is a somewhat common problem allbeit not an easy one to rectify for some.

The fixes i tried only seemed to delay the re occurance of the problem not solve it, luckily i was in the thirty day window of my ibm warranty. Good luck.

Before sending the laptop away, try un-installing the IBM video drivers and installing the Omega ones. They also seem to work better with games.

Thanks!!

I did uninstall the IBM drivers and then install the omega drivers but nothing.
I call IBM and they told me to send the machine to them that i wil need an planar replacement.
How this be possible? The motherboard died because of a video game?

Any other sugestion will be apreciated.

*shrugs*

Not to say that the video game caused the hardware fault; I am guessing it didn't. Most likely this is a severe bug with how ATI handles their hardware with their drivers. Might as well say that ATI's own driver software caused the fault since that is what primarily controls the video card hardware.

Might as well go ahead and send it in to IBM for repair; althugh since you are backing up your data anyway, you could also try reinstalling everything back onto it and see if that solves the problem. :)

Its such a common program with ATI cards. I've had it at some point on every ATI card i own - laptop or desktop.

There's so many theories out there on what it could be:

http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=ati+go ... 8&oe=utf-8

If you're going to backup your data and send it back, you may as well do a system restore to the last backup. Failing that restore the entire computer with the IBM restore discs. You got nothing to loose i guess.

I see you have a customized T40, is the system still under warranty. Would you be able to send it for repair ? Most likely it is the ATI chip , and not the drivers. I had my system go in 3 times for motherboard replacement for similar video issues.

What did they perform on your computer? Did they replace the motherboard more than once?

On last sunday i call the IBM tech support and the representative told me that the problem was the motherboard and send a box so i can send it for repair i told him that my pc has the Fire gl t2 and he told that that is not problem. Yestarday i call to eazserv and they told me that the computer was repaired and that they replace the motherboard. Wow what a surprise!!

As long as the Thinkpad is fine and repaired to your satisfaction, of course. There have been reports of the service centers actualyl doing more harm than good; but I think that, in your case, everything is most likely fine. :)

Opinion on this; the forum was helpful for troubleshooting your problem and hopefully the tech support you receive will too.

Wow, I am very surprised they replaced an aftermarket motherboard replacement under warranty

did you have that done by a tp service center, or did you do it yourself?

Glad it worked out for you! I was expecting the worse, I am relieved to hear of a good/EXCELLENT outcome on this one........ 8)

BUT I am even more upset with Solectron NOW then I was before (I was $&@*(%# upset with them before, imagine now!) For something that should have not been replaced, even worse...something that is not documented as "part" of the T40 in question in the HMM...not only do they fix it...but they get it right....I sent my T40 THREE times and they could not get 1 thing right....AND that one had everything documented in the HMM!!!

I guess this adds to my inclination that they are incompetent...I guess their incompetence worked in someone’s favor!
