rescue and recovery, should I be able to SEE the files?

#1 Post by nikemen » Mon Mar 20, 2006 10:52 am

So, I put RNR on the T43 that had died a few weeks ago, after having restored to a base configuration.

I setup RNR to backup to an external USB2.0 drive, which seemed to go fine. There is now 6GB of used space on the external drive, but there are NO files to see on that drive. I should be able to view hidden, but still there is nothing there.

In RNR it shows this backup path, and shows the backup scheduled as well as the backup, but I don't see ANYTHING on the external drive.

Did the backup actually not take?

You should be able to see the files in Windows Explorer - Actually a buncf of directories with the files in them.

Use Tools\Folder Options\View to make sure that hidden and system files are being shown.

Strange - If you view all backups in R&R, what does it show?

I't possible that R&R created the backup as a hidden folder, like when it backs up to your local drive.

I'm not a big fan of R&R for precisely these kinds of reasons - you are never really sure if it is working right, or if it will work when you need it. And I have definitely seen it not work correctly.
