ThinkVantage Access Connection Problem

#1 Post by margolin » Mon Mar 20, 2006 8:27 pm

Hello all,

I wrote a while back about my problems with Access Connections and controlling my wireless card. Basically, like many people, I had the problem where AC could not turn on/off my wireless card and was not aware of the actual power state of the card. I finally fixed the problem by doing a clean reinstall (as painful as that can be). After clean reinstall any combination of versions of AC and the wireless drivers functioned fine for me.

Since that time, I have tried to be aware of the actual moment that the problem reappeared. I have found 2 conditions that cause the problem. Fortunately, both times, I noticed the problem quickly and was able to use system restore to fix the problem. I now know what caused the problem each time and have been able to make the problem appear (and then disappear by using system restore to revert to an earlier time) repeatedly.

The 2 situations that cause the problem are when I install Quicken 2006 or when I install my Logitech Webcam. I don't know what it is about these installs that causes the problem, but I'm hoping that it will be a hint to someone else about what the actual problem is. Needless to say, I'm no longer using either Quicken or my webcam.

There can be many reasons for it; it probably has something to do with the registry. An easier solution it to uninstall the the drivers for it without rebooting, then re-install AC, then reboot. That has fixed the problem for me and a few others when it comes up. :)

I met someone who looks a lot like you.
She does the things you do.
But she is an IBM.

One thing I do is _never_ update the wireless drivers or software. It works and I'm happy. Every time I tried to update I'd end up with "cannot change the bla-bla" and had to roll back manually.
