streaming media from t42 to xbox360

#1 Post by skanky » Wed Mar 22, 2006 12:43 pm

i've a t42 1.5ghz, 768mb ram, 60gb 7200rpm hdd. i run xp sp2 but i also run a vmware'd session of media center 2005 to allow me to stream HD media from my laptop to my xbox 360.

i've noticed that when the xbox is connected and its streaming media, the vmware session lags a bit and to an extend, so does everything else on the laptop.

both the xbox360 and t42 are connected to the network via cat5 and both plug straight into my dsl router. the t42 is configured for 100mbps, i dont know about the 360 but would assume the same tbh.

i can get a stick of crucial 512mb pc2700 for about £35-40 or it was when i last checked. is it worth getting a stick of 512mb pc2700 to replace the 256mb or would it be better to go for a 1gb pc2700 so i could have a total of 1.5gb, or is that overkill/not worth it?

or is it processor speed thats holding me back here?

any advice would be much appreciated.

Since VMs are all about how much RAM you have, I would say go for the 1GB, even more if you can afford it.
