t43p P M 2.1 chip
is it the same chip generation in t43/p ? newer chip with slower memory & fsb ?
Not sure I understand.
T42 series carried Dothan 400MHz CPUs at 1.6, 1.7, 1.8, 2.0 and 2.1 GHz, the last two being available only in T42p models. They used DDR-333 RAM.
T43 series carried Dothan 533MHz CPUs at 1.6, 1.73, 1.86, 2.0, 2.13 and 2.26 GHz. The used DDR2-533 RAM.
The CPU/RAM in the T42s and T43s are different and non interchangeable. Unless of course someone replaces the entire system board.
If someone says to you that he has a T43p at 2.1GHz, then he probably means 2.13GHz (or confused with a T42).

Sonoma = Chipset
Banias/Dothan = Processor
Centrino = Platform (Processor + Chipset + Wireless, all MUST be made by Intel to be called Centrino)

Not entirely true. All 400MHz Pentium M CPUs will run just fine in a Sonoma chipset based board (i.e. T43). The reverse is NOT true. 533MHz chips will not run well in 400MHz boards (but they will run - have tried this: a 1.86GHz Pentium M throttles down to 1.4GHz in a 400MHz board).dr_st wrote: The CPU/RAM in the T42s and T43s are different and non interchangeable. The 400FSB chips run at 400FSB in a 533FSB capable laptop.
You CAN run them at 533, but you have to do what is called a "pinmod" which basically involves using a TINY hair-sized wire to connect 2 pins in the socket to run the chips at 533. Becuase the Dothan chips have SO MUCH headroom, it is very common to get a 1.6 or 1.7 / 400FSB chip and run it at 2.13/2.26 with no problems. Of course, this voids all kinds of warranties, but any overclocking does. Do a google search for dothan pinmod for more info.
To the best of my knowledge, the sonoma chipset will run the memory async, so even though the FSB is 400MHz, the memory still runs at 533MHz.
The 400 and 533 chips have IDENTICAL pinouts.
