which start-up services & process are necessary?
Although my T43 has 1G memory, the default start-up services and processes have taken about 300M memory. I want to eliminate some unnecessary services, where can I find the list of essential services and process for T4x series?
The largest memory users in my setup are Windows, Symantec Client Security and Access Connections - all of which I want. The smaller processes that I don't frequently use also do not consume much memory. I have 768Mb and find I have lots left over for virtual machines and the like, so I have not been too concerned. ... Virtually none of the default IBM software like ezeject or access connections are required.
The only IBM software I usually have running is the kep mapper so that my right alt is binded to windows, Tpkmapmn.exe
And I also use the Power Monitor, which are the rundll32.exe, batlogex, and pwrmgrtr startup items in msconfig.

You can reduce the number of starting services a great deal and even strenghten your network security at the same time. Check this site out for details and reference -> http://www.dead-eye.net/WinXP%20Services.htm
Personally I run 23 services in total including 5 service jobs supporting Bluetooth, BitDefender (antivirus), Spyware Doctor, Sony Camcorder encoding and the OutPost Firewall from a T41p Thinkpad
