BIOS Update 1RETDNWW (3.20) - Branding Changes?

#1 Post by mr_anime » Thu Mar 23, 2006 3:43 pm

Hi,

I've been holding off on installing a BIOS update for my T42 for a little while, out of fear that it would add some Lenovo branding and/or that this new Intel Logo would be ugly.

The BIOS update is 1RETDNWW (3.20), and the documented changes are
Symptom corrected by version 1RETDNWW (3.20)
Note: This BIOS version will only work with Embedded Controller Program Version 3.04 (or higher).

(Fix) Hang up when HDD identification is failed.
(Fix) Hang up when Boot sequence is changed.
(New) Support New Intel Logo.
So to the people that have already updated, is there any mention of Lenovo, and what does the new Intel Logo look like? Perhaps some wonderful person would be willing to take a movie or photo of the machine starting up...

Is there a place where improvements / requests for future releases of Bios can be made ?

I'm not sure, but you could probably e-mail Lenovo with suggestions.

And I'd appreciate it if you wouldn't hijack my thread.

Thanks!

I installed this new BIOS on my T40 and my logos are the the same as before. I suspect the "new logo" is for the dual core cpu in the T60 family.

Can't be. This BIOS doesn't support the T60.

FWIW, the new Intel logo (link in an earlier post here), shows up on my T41. I have to say I never noticed until I read this thread.

Ah, no biggie. 8)
Thanks, but I'm afraid that only answers half of my question. In addition to what the new logo looked like by itself, I was wondering what it looks like on boot.

I have my address and contact info on boot in case it gets stolen or lost, and I don't feel like updating it.. lol ^^

But a picture would be useful!

If it's like my P4 desktop, it should look just like the picture. When I boot my P4 desktop, the Intel logo (which is different for the P4) takes up about 1/3 of the screen.

I haven't updated my BIOS just yet, as I want to restore a backup (including hardware settings) that I have in another location first. So I can't say I have actually seen it yet on my T42.

Just an FYI, if you have an INTEL wireless card installed instead of the Cisco or another brand, you get the Centrino logo on bootup instead of the Pentium M logo.

I noticed this as soon as I switched out the wireless cards on my old T40.

Thank you for the info. So is there any mention of Lenovo anywhere in the boot screen, or BIOS configuration?

I can not update

#20 Post by xx86pro » Sun Mar 26, 2006 5:29 am

After I ran the BIOS update utility, the computer was restarted and then log into Windows directly. The BIOS version was not changed.

What's the problem?

Probably because you have a centrino system. The logo mentioned is only applicable for systems not centrino-branded, i.e. the systems where the wireless network adapter is non-Intel.

I upgraded my non-centrino T41p, and the logo does change to something resembling the pictures posted above. To be precise, it only says "Intel Pentium inside", not "Intel Pentium M inside".

After upgrading, I can say that imo at least the new intel logo that displays on boot up is a considerable improvement over the ugly thing that was displayed on my screen before the upgrade.

Pretty harsh, I upgraded the BIOS and now the logo says Intel Pentium Inside. That is quite a downgrade from a Pentium M.

Maybe the next BIOS upgrade will change the logo to '486SX?

Now Lenovo is psychologically trying to force upgrades...

 funny underclocker, but as mr_anime mentioned some fixes were also included....
I'm not one to upgrade just for the hell of it anyways, I know lost of people that do. Only if a fix pertains to a problem I'm experiencing will I upgrade.... As the saying goes if it's not broken don't fix it......
