Adjusting size/color of volume and brightness bars?
Adjusting size/color of volume and brightness bars?
Where is the option that lets you change the font/size/color of the volume and brightness bars on the T42. I used to be able to find this option if I looked long enough but my computer has been acting strangely lately and I don't know if it's missing or if I've just forgotten where it is? Thanks.

Under display options -> Advanced -> OSD.suzannetf wrote:Where is the option that lets you change the font/size/color of the volume and brightness bars on the T42. That's what I thought. It's not there... and I've messed with it before to make mine a white color. The reason I'm asking is because they've stopped showing up when I adjust volume (not delayed... they don't appear at all) and I figured that maybe I could turn them off and back on... but where is the option?!?!
I'm currently updating a bunch of drivers at this very moment. Hopefully that solves the problem. My computer just started flipping out last week and I don't know why. It claimed a file had changed. I assumed it was a virus but the same thing happened to my roommate and a friend across campus. We all have the same model computer. (T42).
Ok. I added a TON of drivers and things using the automatic installer I downloaded from the Lenovo site. Now the brightness is working (Yes, the option is there now). The buttons were working for volume, but the Access IBM button didn't work. Now it does. Now: my last problem. All this is fixed but my DVD-RAM drive won't read/write CDs (or DVDs) anymore. Someone told me to disable and enable the DVD-RAM and I did. I have also restarted it. This has had no effect. Any ideas?
(I've had this problem the same amount of time. It wasn't caused by this.)

If you're sure this is a software problem, try to uninstall the drive from Device Manager (start -> run -> devmgmt.msc), then either restart or reinstall it without restarting.suzannetf wrote:Now: my last problem. Otherwise you may try Windows Update, see if it has any drivers related to your disc-drive (through custom update).
Or you could try to uninstall the writing application that Lenovo/IBM has pre-installed. Can't remember the name atm.
Any specific signs that show it's not reading the discs? No physical sounds? Perhaps some errors?

No sound at all. Earlier in the year I bought DVDs that were too advanced for my burner and it would chug along and never show the space on the CD drive as available. Here I just put any disc in (CDs I've always used to burn, movies, etc.) and the light turns on for a second and then turns off. There is no noise.
That seems a bit suspicious, I think the easiest way to solve this is just to walk to a warranty depot (or whatever you call them where you live), with your drive, tell your problem, and they'll give you a new one. Or if you have some doubt that it still might be a software problem, take your whole notebook there.suzannetf wrote:No sound at all. It's a bit hard to do tech-support for me over a forum, as there are literally hundreds of places where one can 'break' a drive in Windows.
That reminds me -- you could try downloading and using a live-linux CD to see if the drive works there. If it does, then start googling (or yahooing/msn'ing/a9'ing ;)) for those hundreds of possible ways, or just call a friend to help.
http://www.knoppix.org would be one live-linux to use, or search for [censored], which is a small one I can think of right now.
