Where oh where has my USB 2.0 gone?

#1 Post by slowernet » Mon Mar 27, 2006 12:18 pm

The performance of my T40s USB ports has reverted to 1.0/1.1 levels.

I have the latest motherboard BIOS installed. In BIOS setup I see no option for "USB High Speed" or anything like that.

When I try to reinstall the Intel drivers for the 855PM chipset, I am prompted for "pci.sys", which I find in \windows\system32\drivers. However, when I do, I am told that the file has not passed "Windows logo compatability" or some such.

I've reinstalled XP SP2 as well.

Any ideas? Thanks for the time.

Do a search on IBM's website for INTEL CHIPSET UPDATE. Or something similar.

If this does not fix it, the board will need to be replaced.

Thanks. I tried that one - downloaded and ran "oss206ww.exe" (which contained "infinst_autol.exe".) It was while installing the latter that I was prompted to find "usbuhci.sys", "usbui.dll", etc.

Does anyone know which of these system files are decisive in determining USB speed?

Thanks.

Maybe this thread will help. http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=16849

But I've read on this forum where sometimes a motherboard replacement is required. http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=17250
