Lead pad for my lap/T43?
Lead pad for my lap/T43?
I have noticed an increased use of my T43 15" on my actual lap. Due to sterility concerns, i was wondering if anyone knew of a flexible lead mat that I could lay across my lap underneath my laptop (something like you wear for x-rays).
Any idea where I would find something like this, or how much I should be expecting to spend? Thanks,
-Brett

You dont achieve total sterility when using a laptop on your lap....unless its powered by active uranium.
There are tons of articles that suggest that sitting "spread eagle" when using your laptop increases air flow and decreases heat, otherwise, i just keep a legal pad under the notebook. "Lead" wont necessarily do you any good, other than maybe be carcinogenic if you decided to make it yourself.

You could try putting your TP farther down your lets (closer to your knees), away from more *sensitive* areas. I find that more comfortable for typing anyway.
Lead would probably be a bad idea, as it's a pretty good heat conductor.

No offense but....What on *earth* do you think a lead pad would do to protect you groin area? It doesn't do much to NIEMR (Non-Ionizing Electromagnetic Radiation) and will only significantly affect ionizing radiation. It is pretty much a myth that a lead pad would help here.
What *does* affect it is the heat produced by the laptop; the area in the genitals where sperm is produced is kept just a tad cooler than the rest of the body for more efficient replication of DNA and manufacture of the sperm itself (there is an in-depth biochemical and biothermodynamic explanation for this, but it is very long). Increased heat slows this process down as well as make it less efficient. The best thing to do would be to protect it form a large amount of heat exposure.

Let me ask a question in return: did you ask this so as to see what kind of responses you would get? Sort of reverse flame bait?BoostedA4 wrote:I have noticed an increased use of my T43 15" on my actual lap. Geez, give the guy a break. He didn't know it was the heat that was the problem.
As the others said, as long as you keep something between the computer and the giblets, you should be alright. I just use a book or binder, and when that gets warm, I switch it out for another. If you do this a lot, it might be worth it to get one of these: http://www.nextag.com/laptop-pad/search-html

Just re-read my post and saw how it might be mis-interpreted. I actually meant that he was trying to get a laugh. I know that I try to see humor in every situation that I can.
So, comment was meant to be humorous but I forgot to put in my smilies.
There, see, I forgot to do it again.

Just thought of something else: you have "sterility concerns" (see definition 1)BoostedA4 wrote:I have noticed an increased use of my T43 15" on my actual lap. Have you considered an autoclave?
