T20 Power Up problem

#1 Post by funcarver72 » Mon Jul 26, 2004 2:46 am

Hi,

I have got a T20, which is a couple years old.
Since a few days ago, it has a power-up problem:
When I press the power-button, the HD led flashes once
and can hear a clicking sound (from speaker?)
- thats all.
The screen remains dark, neither HDD nor CPU-Fan are
powered.

Occasionally it will power up and work fine until the next
time it is powered on.

I have browsed many forums to got hints for fixing
the problem, which seems to me quite common.
But nothing helped, actually.

AC Power-Supply Voltage is fine (16.5V),
Battery is loaded.

One hint has been to check/replace the CMOS (RTC) battery:
I did not replace it but measured the voltage: 3V --> seems ok.

Besides changing the complete mainboard I am
glueless, what the root-cause might be.
It seems to me like an recoverable / thermal contact problem.

Any ideas are appreciated.

Regards
Heiko

I have exactly the same problem with my T21. The click is definitely not the speaker though - I opened the case and removed the speaker assembly to prove this.

I've replaced the RTC backup battery (under the main battery) and it doesn't seem to have made any difference. Very occasionally it will power up, but mostly its dead.

What really annoyed me was that its only a couple of months out of the 3 year warranty.

David.
