hehe, exactly. Really, the only thing I can do is wait. That doesn't make it easier though ;).

you know, even if i had sold you that thinkpad i would probably be in the same boat..
waiting for UPS to deliver..
unless i had stock of that particular model..

only thing i would do is gently complain to ibm and MAYBE get a spiff..
like a free port replicator or some such..
or free shipping..

Mine showed up on Friday

#36 Post by bigbillyt » Sun Aug 01, 2004 10:32 am

I did call and gripe at IBM Thursday morning who then conferenced in a UPS rep who said she would call me back within an hour. She did what she said she would but said they had a dedicated individual for these issues specifically with IBM who would call me back with more specifics regarding my unit. Apparently it was not easy for her to decipher what the "exception" status meant. However, the other UPS person never called me back. So, I was a little miffed and was prepared to call back UPS to find out what was going on since it had been over a week sitting in Louisville. But, it showed up Friday morning and, fortunately, my wife was home to receive the package. So, UPS either saw that it was on it's way or just went ahead and greased the squeeky wheel. Either way they redeemed themselves along with IBM.

However, in the mean time I had ordered a refurb direct from IBM. I did this because I discovered I could get the T41P with much better specs all the way around for just a bit more money AND it was in North Carolina and could be delivered the next day shipped overnight for less than what I paid for the shipping on the new unit. So now, the New T42 is going back. I inspected it just out of curiosity and it apears to be exactly the same chasis and screen so I will keep the unit with the greater video memory, bigger, faster hard drive, built in bluetooth, A/B/G wireless and bigger battery.

I have to say, I was never gruff with anyone at IBM or UPS and they were both very professional and helpful every time I inquired about the status of my order. In fact, when I got the refurb on Thursday I wanted to get the recovery CDs on the way to me ASAP so I called and, I guess either because of the fact that I had just registered the system or because of the way IBM re-serializes the refurbs to differentiate them from the original new serial number, there was a problem with my warranty coverage. They transferred me to a terrific CSR who asked me to e-mail him my invoice. He followed up and called me back twice, once to apologize and once to assure me that my warranty coverage was in effect. Then, on top of that the original rep that I talked to called back and left me a message to let me know that my recovery CDs were on the way. So, big Kudos to IBM for customer service.

On a final note, I now have some reservations regarding the T41P as well. But that is the subject for a seperate post (too long winded to re-state).

nice to hear that your laptop arrived safely, and that ibm took care of you well. Last week, I got the number to UPS's Kentucky office, and I have the direct line to a worker there. I have to say that throughout all of this, both IBM/UPS have been extremely courteous. The blame isn't with them, but with Customs.

OUT FOR DELIVERY

Over the past few (2?) days, I've spoken to this really awesome CSR at IBM. Every other one kind of said "eh, there's nothing we can do," while she called UPS and kept me up to date. From what I understand, she got in touch with the people needed to get the Customs thing going as well. Is there any way to let her supervisor know?
