Got the same feelin. Think i'm going for it now since i suffer from immediate satisfaction syndrome, and since who knows when in the world MS is going to get vista out and running halfway stable.

My T41 still does everything I need. I have stopped lusting because dumping money into the newest PC won't have any payback at this point. I will change my thinking, I'm sure, when a ThinkPad comes out with a super large hard drive and a version of Vista that runs fast.

Sure. I'm sure Bill Morrow would like the business.

You might to wait until 64-bit core-duo (code name: Memron ?) which may arrive with the T61p. But if you're the sort of person who upgrades each year to a new -p model, by all means do it. I think I would do at least a 2 year cycle myself. Even with unlimited funds.

I just bought a T40, and I plan on using it for the next 3 years regardless of money.

I was thinking the same thing! I run multiple apps at the same time; so I was looking at the benefits of the DUO.....I am happy that the website bombed a few days back......I ran a DUO 1.6 today at work, most of the day; and I was not THAT impressed with the results....so I am going to wait!

I have a D620 with the 256MB video card (duo 1.73) and a D820 with the 512MB card (cad) on order (60 day eval) I will run more intensive tests here.....YES, they are NOT TP's but I am interested on the performance of the DUO ONLY ! Each will carry 1 DIMM X1GB, 5400RPM drives for the 620 and 7200 for the 820 series.......again, today’s tests did not "impress" me on the performance of the DUO.......

The real question is, "Can the applications you plan to use really take advantage of Dual Core or parallel processing?" If you go with Word, Powerpoint, a Web Browser....then you won't see much of a benefit. Even for more advanced stuff like program compiles and math processing, you have to be sure that you are able to use the full power of both cores. Most applications now aren't really designed to handle multiple processors unless they either specialize in something that does or are specifically designed to do so. It also depends on the OS, Windows XP hasn't a particularly strong background in parallel processing. Usually, on the machines that do it most often, I have seen either vendor-specific OSes handle it or something like BSD or Linux, both of which do pretty good jobs on such systems. :)

T60P, bah. I'm lusting for the X41 Tablet. Prices dropping into the range I paid for my T43 6 months ago. Actually, I wish Lenovo would come up with an Axim-killer PDA.
2668-75U T43, 2GB RAM, 2nd hand NMB kybd, Dock II, spare Mini-Dock, and spare Port Replicators. Wacom BT tablet. Ultrabay 2nd HDD.
2672-KBU X32, 1.5GB RAM, 7200 rpm TravelStar HDD.

And I'm lusting after your Bill Morrow supplied T43p!

Absolutely, then sell me your old, tired, decrepit and abused T43p!

(I have to admit to lusting after the T60p as well, but reality, and airplane payments, keep rearing their ugly heads!)

You sure you don't want a T61 with Merom and Vista instead?

Merom is pin compatable and currently working on Intel i945pm/gm ES boards, it only requires a bios update. Merom will be launched on the 667mzh FSB and the Napa platform (i945) and later transitioned to 800FSB and the Santa Rosa platform. since its the same chipset, and if the T20-T22 and T40-T42 generation is any indication, the T60 will take a Merom chip. Vista will likely be offered for free through my university, so thats fine.

Id say im covered :p
