Mini review: T4x keyboard part number 39T0519

#1 Post by K. Eng » Wed Mar 29, 2006 5:39 pm

A week before the warranty ran out on this system, the spacebar went bad. It wouldn't register a strike at all, leaving some of my typed sentences tolooklikethisoccassionally.

I got the replacement keyboard today, a 39T0519 made in China.

It feels a bit softer than my old keyboard, a P/N 08K4957, also made in China, and the color of the keys is closer to charoal than black. The texture is also a bit grainier, which seems to reduce glare from the plastic.

The panel that contains the power, volume, and Access IBM key is also now textured instead of smooth.

Trackpoint and buttons feel roughly the same, just a bit smaller. Overall, I'm pretty happy with this keyboard.

Edit - I feel like I have a new ThinkPad now! Last time I sent it in for repair for some cracked plastics the keyboard bezel and palmrest got changed, so it all looks new on the interior surface of the base :)

39T0519 is a NMB keyboard in case anyone is wondering; guess they are all made in China now.

I'm still waiting for my replacement keyboard; 43 hours and counting...
