A NETWORK PROBLEM
A NETWORK PROBLEM
Hello,
I have a peculiar problem, and I wonder whether anybody can help
me. I recently installed software updates to my T42 2373-CXG, and
some time after this my "Local Area Connection" icon disappeared,
and I cannot make an (ethernet) cable connection. I phoned the
IBM service shop which handles my warranty issues, and they
advised me to check whether a message appears when I plug the
cable in and then unplug it. There is no message. I went to the
shop, and they couldn't figure out anything. They surmised though
that I might not have the latest drivers, or that it has something
to do with the "Access Connections" software. I checked for
newer drivers, and there were none. I removed "Access Connections"
as well as "Intel PROSet for Wired Connections". No difference.
At the moment the only thing that comes to mind is to revert to
the factory configuration, and see if the problem persists.
If yes, it is a hardware issue; if no, it is a software problem.
But before making this step, I am sending this in case somebody
has an idea that would save me a lot of work.

Uninstall the drivers, then plug in an ethernet cable, then reboot; try to attempt to connect via as many ways you can. This sets up different LAN connections through Windows and the drivers will be included when Windows reconigures them. You will get a few connections with numbers at the end like LAN 3 (Ethernet) or LAN 6 (Ethernet). I met someone who looks a lot like you.
She does the things you do.
But she is an IBM.
