Confused about warranty ...

The T42 2378FVU comes with a base warranty of 1 years, and while upgrading it says:

ServicePacs and ThinkPad Protection available only for business or professional use. ServicePac and ThinkPad protection coverage begins on date of original invoice and may overlap warranty.

Does using the T42 in research and academic work as a teaching / research assistant classify as professional work?
