T42 and Port Replicator II and External Speakers

I have a T42 docked with the Port Replicator II. I have external speakers plugged into the Port Replicator.

For some reason it does not disable the internal speakers on the T42.

Is this supposed to be like this?

However, if I plug the external speakers into the T42 directly, the internal speakers are disabled.

maybe you can use the sound control button to low the voice
and the internal speaker will not sound.

Yes.

If you want to disable the internal speakers when docked, you'll need to put a dummy plug (that is a mini-jack plug with nothing connected to it) into the socket on the ThinkPad body.

Same with my T41 + Mini-dock (Bose MediaMates), and T41/3 + Dock II at home (Logitech Z3 3-piece set, very nice).

I just turn the laptop speakers lower than my desktop speakers (no big deal). You can also use teh keyboard customizer utility to map keys to the hardware laptop buttons, and not even have to reach over to the TP (if you use external peri's like me).

Just turn your volume right down to its lowest setting - i.e. off, but using the volume down button - NOT mute. This will stop all sounds out of the laptop, but allow sounds from the external speakers.
