Unable to add windows components on T42

#1 Post by pej2000 » Mon Apr 03, 2006 11:34 pm

I'm just trying to add windows internet information service and some other components.

I'm getting errors that files can't be found.
Aren't they all on the disc here somewhere?

Thanks
for any suggestions

They should be there unless someone has gone in your machine and deleted some stuff.

I'm the only one that uses this computer and I've done a full reinstall in the last month. Everything was there for the reinstall.

Are you doing it through add/remove windows components in control panel? Try running system file checker, and maybe see if there is something on the microsoft web about the files not found.

Ok, I found a microsoft page on the problem.

Apparently I have to integrate the SR2 and original installation files in a separate directory in order to install files.

My problem is I don't know where those files are on this computer.

Can you help me locate the original windows installation files and the SR2 files?

One of these two links should give you the necessary information. I did this myself some time back, but I forget the details. The methods in the two links are slightly different. If I remember correctly, one of them worked and the other didn't. Don't remember for sure which now, but I think it was the PC Magazine article that worked. Actually I used information from both articles to make my slipstreamed CD. I know you are not trying to slipstream a CD, but integrating SP2 is discussed.
