IBM configuration inconsistencies???

#1 Post by Binglehopper » Tue Jul 27, 2004 10:03 am

Hello all,

I just got off the phone w/ IBM and I'm wondering if anyone else has noticed inconsistencies with what you can do in the "build it yourself" and what's offered in the pre-built models.

basically, i'd like to get the t42 with the 14' SXGA screen and the 64mb radeon along with the 60 gb 7200 rpm drive.

none of the prebuilt models offer this combination, so i went to try and build it myself. to my surprise, when configuring, if you choose the 64 mb video card, the option for the 14' SXGA is not available. the only choice is the 15'.

many of the prebuilt models have the screen/video card combo, such as the 2373-3UU, 2373-8XU, etc.

does anyone else find this weird?

so i said to myself, ok i'll just call up ibm and upgrade the hard drive.

I called up IBM and the guy on the phone said you cannot change the hard drives on the prebuilt models. Then he had no clue why the 14' SXGA and 64mb radeon is available through prebuilt and not customizing.

I hope all of that makes a little sense.
i'm hoping the forum members (who probably know more than the ibm people you talk to on the phone) have some answers.

thanks.
