hello all,
i'm looking at the 2373-6ZU T42 model in the TABook
ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/pc/pcinstitu ... tabook.pdf
and am a little confused about the wireless options that go with it.
on some of the other 2373 -XXX models, it's specified that the wireless is intel's chipset, which i know is centrino. so for the models, such as the 2373-6ZU, that have the "11a/b/g Wi-Fi" does that mean they DO NOT have integrated wireless? Does that consist of an extra card that needs to be put into the pcmcia slot?
I was under the impression that all Pentium M chips come bundled w/ centrino and therefore integrated wireless...
thanks in advance
little confused about wireless specs in TAbook...

Perfectly straightforward for those twisted people at IBM...
The 2373-6ZU is not Centrino - yes, it has a Pentium M, yes it has the Intel 855PM Chipset but no, it doesn't have the mighty Intel 2200 11b/g with it's super duper Intel 82532 Chipset - instead it has the IBM equivalent - 11b/g (Atheros)with the AR50 02 Chipset
Now alot of us would say this was in fact an advantage - do you want to pay for a Centrino logo on your laptop? Do you want it to work? Right, so go buy the laptop...

You're under the wrong impression. Centrino is a marketing term developed by Intel to indicate that a PentiumM laptop has:Binglehopper wrote:I was under the impression that all Pentium M chips come bundled w/ centrino and therefore integrated wireless...
1) An Intel PentiumM processor.
2) An Intel 855PM or newer chipset.
3) ONLY an Intel WiFi NIC!
If you change no. 3 to something other than an Intel card (e.g. IBM, Athero, etc., etc.) then the unit can no longer be called a Centrino laptop.
