Accidental damage protection insurance

#1 Post by aamsel » Tue Jul 27, 2004 6:54 pm

Is accidental damage protection available on T series Thinkpads???
If so, how much would that add to the 3 year depot warranty that comes with the 2379DXU ???

Thanks,
Andrew

IBM calls the accidental coverage their ThinkPad Protection Service plan.
If you go to the Express Model page for the 2379DXU and click Cusomize & Buy, you will see the options for warranty. It is $169 to add the 3yr Protection plan to thinkpads with the 3yr base warranty.
The Protection Service must be bought at the time of purchase (though you may be able to work something out with ibm if you've just bought it, at least of read posts to that effect)
X21 (upgrade: 384MB ram 60GB 7200rpm)
T42 2378-DXU (upgrade: 1.5GB ram 60GB 7200rpm)
Z60m 2531-MTU (upgrade: 2GB ram)

yes it is... it doesn't extend your warranty.. you either buy it as an "add on" to your standard 3yr, or you can get (for extra cost) an extension to a maximum of four years of both (they must run concurrently)

I managed to add it on. They first deduct any additional warranties you put on and then re-add the new warranty with thinkpad protection.

My logic with them was 'This is a brand new laptop, I've had it for a week. It's perfect. I can return it, and you can sell it as a refurb and send me a brand new one, but that's stupid...'

Good luck,

actually if you bought it in US, then within the 30 day frame you can buy Thinkpad Protection. I did this and I believe the reason is you can always return and reorder another one...

As for the Thinkpad Protection Service....
does it cover everything like a Dell Complete Care warranty???
As in...if the notebook is run over with a car, or dropped into a swimming pool, it is covered as long as the customer states that it was not intentional damage??? And, all parts of the notebook are covered???
Bottom line, I hate Dell notebooks, but I love their Complete Care.

Andrew, you got it. It covers all accidental damage. Of course, it doesn't covers theft, but unless you take a hammer to it, you're covered on anything else that happens.
