SHADOW IN BOTTOM RIGHT CORNER

#1 Post by jordi32 » Wed Jul 28, 2004 1:07 am

I noticed that My Thinkpad T42 screen has some kind of shadow in the bottom right corner. Is this normal? If not, does anyone else have it?

Thank you.

Well, we'd need to know more about your thinkpad. Was it dropped, or did it experience any shock prior to this "shadow"?

If it wasn't damaged, it might just be that you had the luck of receiving an screen which suffered from non-uniform luminosity,(at least that's what the engineers called it) which is a characteristic of LCD screens.

I had such a problem with my x31, and, thanks to the grace of IBM, they allowed me to exchange it for a T42.

Here's a link to a previous discussion on the matter:

Hope that helped.

Thank you for your input , Barras. My Thinkpad T42 came with a non working fan from factory. I went to the service center and they said they had reattached the fan cable and that the problem had probably been due to the shipping roughness. I wonder if the shadow at the bottom right corner is also due to the shipping. The computer is less than a week old. Therefore I requested a replacement. They charged me for it and they started a new order. I asked the new order to be expedited but the order page says that the new order is supposed to be shipping by August 18th. That is a long time. I will try to keep this computer, although defective, until the new one arrives. However I am afraid that the new one may be even worse. At least, on this one, I have not gotten any dead/stuck pixels. I feel that IBM should be able to expedite replacements so that its customers do not have to wait for such a long time.

Any other input will be very much appreciated.

Thank you very much.

Best regards,

Jordi

I ordered a 2378-FVU late in the day on 7/28. Initially it also gave me a late date like 8/18.

Order status now says "Shipped on 07/30/04".

The IBM Returns page says you can get a refund or credit. They don't mention "exchange", but that doesn't mean they won't do it.
