I use water and a paper towel on the screen, and occasionally some windex, to get off the last bits of oil. I know there's a lot of noise about this, but I've been doing it on this T41 for almost three years (and on every computer I've had previously) and the only screen problem is a damaged spot where the little joystick rubs. Just don't do it every day--I use windex about every two months, and water the rest of the time.

On the cover, I use windex, liberally.

I use distilled water and a microfiber cloth. I also don't touch my screens so "cleaning" is only every few weeks. Dusting is more like it. Now when I am forced to buy something from a previous owner who thinks his Thinkpad is a touch-screen model I use the cleaner I was sold to use on my Swarovski & Zeiss optical products which looks to be (mainly) a mixture of distilled water and isopropyl alcohol. In any case I apply the liquid to the cloth and gently wipe the screen only as much as necessary.

I was told paper products in the US have a high silica content so they can be very abrasive. I never researched this but with the cost of a microfiber cloth being $2 I don't take the chance either.

50% ethanol 50% water. To avoid scratching the screen, I use lens paper, i.e. the kind used to clean microscope lenses.

I use AM flatscreen cleaner: http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.asp?sku=311674&cks=ACC

It works very well, comes with spray and microfiber-covered spunge, and leaves no stripes :-)

It's interesting that three of us have mentioned water. It was a bit of a surprise to me when I discovered that I didn't need some strong chemical to remove greasy fingerprints.

I'd always thought of this type of problem as being how close I could get to acetone without actually destroying what I was working on. :-) Then I discover water works pretty well by itself. . . It's a useful chemical, and a nice convenience that we have so much of it placed accessibly around us.

I'm a violin maker/restorer, and restorers now and recently use de-ionized water for cleaning things. It's basicially a purer version of distilled, and the de-ionized part means that it's aggressively looking for things (grease, dirt) to hook up with, and thus a very subtle solvent for a lot of things. I'd never known that about water until a couple of years ago. That was why I even bothered to try water on my screen, and darned if it didn't work much better than I'd predicted!

Hi

In my oppinion the best way to clean screen is to use special wipes. They're not so expensive about 5-6eur.But you will be sure you will not damage your screen.

I used water for a good while too - just haven't been able to avoid making stripes on the screen. Maybe I'm too clumsy :-)

I use an air duster, spot clean the areas that need cleaning then use my shirt to wipe it down, no scratches, no marks

I go with a micro-chamois cloth and Klearscreen; works for the screen, keyboard, and chassis. :)
