will IBM accept an exchange for the intel PRO 2100 to 2200?
will IBM accept an exchange for the intel PRO 2100 to 2200?
I was wondering since IBM advertises both the Intel PRO 2100 and 2200 for $59 if I could just exchange my 2100 miniPCI card for the newer 2200.
Would IBM do that?
Would IBM do that?

I could be wrong, but I thought most of the thinkpads with the a/b/g cards were higher priced than the centrinos. It seemed that way for most the T42s I looked at.ian wrote:It's possible that you'll find there are a number of people here who don't really want to pay extra for a Centrino sticker on their laptop - given that the IBM 11a/b/g seems to work pretty good...this is my personal opinion on the subject.
don't do it. i bought mine installed it enjoyed it for the first couple of minutes after which i paid dearly for it. here's what's happening to me;
1. connection drops from 54mbps to 1mbps when the unit is plugged in and charging.
2. if transferring a file the ultranav pointer lags and chokes whilst moving or scrolling.
3. domain controller can't be reached at logon making me vpn when im local.
4. my download speeds are @ 4.6kb.
how long have i been trying to resolve this matter? it has been a good 1.5months. today will be my last day to use this internal card, as i have given up on my search to resolve this matter.
oh and one more thing, don't do that whole "recovery" stuff, cuz i did that mistake thinking it would be better, and i have noticed a HUGE performance loss.
I think once i migrate all my data to my company provided dell notebook i will send this thinkpad in for a good repair of some sort.

I took out my Intel 2100 card (fundamentally worthless) and replaced it with an IBM 11a/b/g card at my own expense. The new card was reasonably priced, and it works exceedingly well, so that made it worth the effort and cost in my view.
I still have the Centrino sticker, but the screen says Pentium M, not Centrino. ... JDHurst
