In another thread I had asked about the hibernation problems I started having after I upgraded my T40p to 2GB memory, and someone hinted that there was a fix available but still in testing.
I did some homework and found several sources for this hotfix. Officially one needs to contact Microsoft support at a cost to obtain the hotfix.
Whether you will use these resources here or get it from Microsoft, I will leave to your ethical disposition.
Microsoft KB article about this problem (includes instructions to call support to get the hotfix)
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/909095
Several references to the hotfix with download links:
http://translocator.ws/2005/11/06/hiber ... -resources
http://www.u-g-h.com/InsufficientSystem ... LIVED.aspx
I applied this fix and it seems to work (I tried to replicate the problem twice and it worked fine). Read my problem in detail at http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=23273
