Screen issue after Easyserv

#1 Post by bl0tt0 » Mon Apr 17, 2006 11:32 am

Ok, I've had my t42p since about September, and just last month had the fan fail. I sent it in to Easyserv and the returned it about a week later with a new fan, but then the machine still wound up shutting down randomly without any warnings. I sent it in again, and they wound up replacing the planar card in the machine. That seems to have resolved that problem, however now I've noticed that the screen was chipped near the very center (very small, but still noticeable on a black screen), on top of that, there's also a dimmed speck at the very bottom of the screen. It almost looks like there's something sitting behind the screen itself, but after I took off the housing for the lcd, there didn't seem to be any apparent issues with something being in the way.

I'm very anal about protecting the screen itself, and I keep it clean and protected with a radtech screensavr whenever carrying it in my bag, so I'm pretty sure that this wasn't something that I caused to happen. That leaves the fault either lying with the service center, or the screen itself. I read on the forums that Lenovo has outsourced some of the thinkpad line's repair work, and the company doing it has a tendency to be sub-par, so now I've found a service partner near where I live, and I'm considering taking it in and having them look at it in order to figure out the problem. What I'm wondering is whether I would be justified in asking for a screen replacement if it turns out to be an issue that can't easily be fixed, or is trying to get a screen replacement for this kind of issue is just a waste of time. Some might say it's a minor problem, but it's absolutely driving me nuts, especially considering how I've paid so much for what I thought was a top of the line machine and the extended warranty that comes with it should issues arise. Can anyone give me any advice?

Thank you

Hello,

I've sent my t40p for a similar issue (a little dark arc in the middle bottom of the screen) and I'm waiting for the replacement.

I live in France, if you can wait I will tell you my experience as soon as the laptop come back.

I'm feared because I know that if they give me a screen with dead/stuck pixels I would have not any resort and this would be more 'fatal' flaw than the original one.

I'm not really sure but perhaps, as a first step it would be a good idea to contact IBM and register your complaint in detail about the condition of the screen when you got it back from EZ Serve. The sooner in time to when you got the machine back that you do this the better I would think.

Then it might be a good idea to take in to a local authorized IBM repair shop and see if you can get them to replace the screen under warranty.
