New T42--- Yay!, Except for one small thing.

#1 Post by Leon » Thu Jul 29, 2004 5:56 pm

Today just got my new T42 - 2373-9ZU. I love it AND I lucked out!

1. Thai Keyboard
2. Sony battery.
3. Samsung screen.

Maybe they're listening to us!

There is one very minor problem. The Indicator Light Strip (the one below the keyboard with Bluetooth indicator, etc.), has a scratch through it. Is there an FRU for this? If they have it, how do I uninstall/install it? Is it just an adhesive sticker?

Thanks!

Leon,

Do you mean the clear plate with all the other status indicators (battery, wifi, caps lock, numlock etc.), or the one on the top cover? The clear plate's FRU number is 13R2455. It's just a sticker. You can use a razor blade to remove it.

I think it's just a protective sticker. Peel it out and see if you still have the scratch.

Yeah, as Roadhazard said, it might be just a protective sticker. I haven't discovered mine for months, because it wasn't really visible.

Yes Skywing thanks, Samsung, I've edited the post. G-Man, are you sure.?The tech I spoke to told me the frame needed to be taken apart. And the part is listed as an "N" code, (not a CRU). Whaddaya think?.... Others who mentioned a "protective sticker"... have you actually peeled one off? I dont want to start peeling if there isn't one there or I might make it worst.

In fact, that's the first thing I did!

There's another one on the cover LEDs.

Just flick the rounded (left) edge with your fingernail to see if anything loosens up on the surface, then you won't run the risk of scratching the thing even more.

Same here -
I noticed mine was "messed up" about 7 days after I started using my new T42. After about 2 seconds of a sinking feeling ...how did I mess that up... I quickly realized that there was a protective plastic film on the lens. There is a protective film sticker there almost without a doubt.
This is the same stuff that they use to cover cell phone screens etc.
In fact, many electronics items use these films to protect any kind of clear lens surface. I am an electronics buyer for a large retailer, and I have had issues with customer returns who thought their product was damaged, when actually it was just a case of removing the protective film.

Let us know when you remove it. :D
