T42p "pop" sound when i click

#1 Post by miccocan » Mon Apr 17, 2006 6:39 pm

Hi
i just replaced my T42p motherboard and this week i realize something strange happen. when i click on any button in IE or folder, i hear a "POP" sound 1 second after the "click" sound. it never happen before, also when i play sound file or music there are no distortions, only happen on buttons. so is that a setting problem? or motherboard problem? or speaker damage?

100% sure is not, pop up blocker doesn't sound like that, i really don't know how to describe the pop sound

oh it sound like once you start or finish one sentance in a walkie-talkie, that "bub" or "pop" sound will appear on the other end.

Go to Start > Control Panel > Sounds and Audio Devices > Sounds. Under Program Events, scroll down to Windows Explorer > Start Navigation. The file listed should be Windows XP Start.wav . You can change that to None, and your clicking noise should disappear!

EDIT: I also remember someone else posting a similar issue. I believe he did not have the built-in microphone muted, so he was getting a sort of feedback. Open the volume control, and click on Options > Properties, and make sure the Microphone box is checked. Click on OK and make sure the Mute box is checked on the microphone.

Go to C:\WINDOWS\Media\ and double-click on the file start.wav. Is that the sound you are hearing?

If you don't hear anything, navigate to that file in Windows Media Player, and play it.

If the sound is the same, then follow the tip I posted above.

Does this work for YOU?

I have noticed this very quiet "pop" sound from time to time, and thought it was a periodic hardware sound due to temp fluctuations. Last week, while convalescing, I realized that it was happening, as posted, immediately after clicking a link in IE, and the "start" .WAV file played. "Start," (pop). "Start," (pop). ,:\

I turned off the "start navigation" event sound under Windows Explorer in all themes. It clicks when you click a link. (There's also a Windows "select" sound event that I never use. I know I selected something, I don't Windows "blipping" when I do it.) Suddenly, no no more very pop.

My conclusion: the sound card was doing something after playing such a small, brief sound. Since I don't need the sound, no loss. Case closed?

Hello.
I have also the "pop" sound issue in my T43.
This "pop" sound appears after any sound from my laptop (not only in internet explorer).
http://perso.orange.fr/ethryl/T41p/crackle_1.wav
User frenchy recorded this file.

Additionally in my case I discovered that:
If I mark "mute all" (microphone also is muted) and blow or hit stronger T43 casing above Esc key, I will hear "pop" sound from built-in speakers. !!! :/
It means, taht the "pop" sound appears in response to sound wich has even external source.
Is there someone who experences the same?
I think the microphone "works" even it is muted, but you will not notice that if you use headphones.

I was looking for solution to this problem and no results.
I have read several topics on this forum and it seems, that only solution is the motherboard replacement. Are there any other ways?

That sounds exactly like the Windows XP Start.WAV file in Windows' Media folder. Have you checked MMSYS.CPL and ensure you don't have the "Start Navigation" sound playing that WAV?

Hello again and thx for quick response.

I tried to explain that the problem is not in the wav file while I use internet explorer.
This crackle_1.wav file from my previous post was the example how the "pop sound" sounds and when it appears.
Of course if I don`t have "Start Navigation" playing Windows XP Start.WAV, I don`t hear "pop sound" just because I don`t hear any wave file.

I am not really sure if the problem is in software, microphone or motherboard.
I had had T23 before and there wasn`t any issue. I am disappointed my T43. I have bought 6 months used T43.
If there is no solution to this "pop" problem, I want to just know If this problem which I described appears in the new one.

I almost NEVER hear the quiet "pop" sound unless that particular WAV plays. So eliminating that WAV file solved the problem for me, as per my previous post. That's all I can suggest.
