T42 infrared

My new T42 (3UU) "actively refuses" IR transmissions from another laptop (that's what the error message says). The other laptop gets the 'wireless link' icon in the system tray saying the T42 is in range, but the T42 doesn't. What am I doing wrong?

Is your infrared enabled? You could do this under Thinkpad Configurations.
Thinkpad T42 2373CYU
1.8 Ghz
1024 MB
60 GB HDD 7200RPM(Upgraded)
64 MB 9600 Radeon-Catalyst drivers
DVD-RW
