Order is being packed?

I ordered a T42 3XU last night. Last night the order was pending credit card verification. Today it changed to order is being packed. What does this really mean? I'm confused because when I ordered the unit it said availability: 25 days and gave me an estimated ship date o 9/6/2004. My account screen still gives this as the ship date. But if it's being packed, doesn't that imply it's almost ready to ship? Anyone have experience like this? I'm willing to wait until september, but I'd LOVE to have it sooner. I don't want to get my hopes up though...

Don't get your hopes up, but when I ordered mine last week, it shipped out the day after it was packed. Did you order an entirely stock unit?

Well, I'm not sure. I ordered through the ibm educational website. You're given a drop down box with the options in stock or all products. It shows up when you choose in stock, with availability: 25 days. But thanks for the encouragement. I'm soooo excited! My laptop is 6 years old! (IBM 600)

not to discourage you, BUT, sometimes Order Being Packed changes BACK to Backordered (happened to me). You will know within 24 hrs. On a bright note, even if that happens, they usually ship MUCH sooner than the say.....

Good news: it shipped! I picked standard shipping (not free, apparently because I'm an educational customer - $35

) but it says ups 2 day! So I might have this tuesday? Sweeeeeeeet

yeah, you might have it tuesday. . . or two tuesdays from now if the FDA hates you and is still holding your laptop after 6 days . . . not like I'm bitter

My two X40's I ordered last week have their estimated ship date 08/21, but the status changed to "Customizing\Packing" today.

When I ordered my T42p on Friday, they told me that there was 15 day backlog. When I got my invoice via e-mail they gave me a ship date of 8/24 and my order changed to “the part is on backorder”. Today it is in “customizing / packaging”. I hope that this means that my very first TP, and notebook, will be in my grubby little hands soon!!!
