#1 Post by shiyang » Thu Apr 27, 2006 9:13 pm

so i'm thinking of buying a dock for the T43

will it still work with the T60 series?

i know the 60s have a 20 volt plug, will that be an issue?

thanks guys

No, the T4x docks will not work with T6x Thinkpads.

Seems like bad marketing decision. I have a port replicator and minidock for my T42, so having to buy new docks would make me reluctant to upgrade to later model T series.

I agree, laz. I am hesitant to upgrade -- what am I going to do with all these mini-docks??

If you buy another brand laptop you'll have to buy a new dock etc too, so its no different.

Sometimes life is like that!

what's new

#7 Post by shiyang » Sun Apr 30, 2006 1:27 am

is there any features that the T60 dock provides that the T40 series doesn't or is it just the same connector in another location so that nothing fits?

Support for a 25%+ higher power voltage for a start. There is some active electronics in most of the docks, so that's a non-trivial difference.

In any case, if you want info on T6x configurations, you should ask in the T6x forum.

If you've got a relatively new T43, it's going to last a few years. I'm not sure upgradability to T60 is such an urgent issue. If you upgrade, sell the Port Rep. II/Mini-dock/Dock II along with your T43. I'm sure someone looking for a used kit will snap up a laptop with docking station in the bundle.
2668-75U T43, 2GB RAM, 2nd hand NMB kybd, Dock II, spare Mini-Dock, and spare Port Replicators. Wacom BT tablet. Ultrabay 2nd HDD.
2672-KBU X32, 1.5GB RAM, 7200 rpm TravelStar HDD.
