Help needed - Extra ram not working

#1 Post by Guv'nor-K » Fri Apr 28, 2006 1:49 pm

Just received a 1GB stick of Crucial DDR2 PC-4200 RAM from newegg.

popped open the bottom compartment and installed the ram as directed. (i installed it after removing both the a/c and battery)

when i powered on the system i got a pattern of beeps:

beep-----beep-beep-beep---beep-beep-beep-----beep.

Then the system just sits there silent. According to the troubleshooting manual its an installation error if i encounter 2 or more beeps.

I've installed and uninstalled the ram quite a few times now and its made no difference. I thought I might have created a static buildup so to check I pulled out the stick, but the system runs fine.

Is there some other way i should be discharging the system before installation?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Check for available Bios updates.
Pull the 512MB chip and see if the laptop runs with the 1GB stick only.
Try the 512MB chip in the second memory slot, to make sure it's working.
